Cob Building and more Workshop

Location:Denman Island BC aka Tay’Stay’ich, Salish sea

August 17-20, 2026

Cost is $400 for this 4 day workshop.

Join Mudgirl Rose Dickson at her natural home on Denman Island. We will be working on finishing a cob bath-house that was started earlier this year, as well as doing some clay or lime plastering on various parts of the main house. Come process local clay and sand with Prairie straw into a practical and functional building material, and learn how to use it! We will install bottles and windows, and if we get there, roof beams from local logs. The same clay and sand will be turned into plaster to apply to walls as a protective finish.

As well as this hand’s on experience, we will discuss the principles of natural building and tour a handful of natural homes that utilize various earthen and wood building techniques. Bring your questions and your passion for learning and building. This is a smaller workshop size.

$400 for 4 days

Lunch and camping is included in workshop fee, full kitchen available for making breakfast and dinner. Childcare is not offered by default in this lower-budget workshop, but options can be discussed if there is need.

The second in a plastering focused series, this workshop is a small class size format, working with Mudgirl Rose Dickson on her natural home. In this workshop we will make clay, lime and clay/lime blend plasters from scratch using raw materials, and practice applying them to existing clay-plastered walls. Learn techniques relevant for plastering over any substrate. Instructionals will cover a variety of natural building principles, as well as plaster ingredients and what climate or scenario each is best suited for. Camp in mossy forest on a fun and functional land share. Only 6 participants will be accepted for this workshop.

$400 for 4 days

A plastering focused weekend, this workshop is a small class size format, working with Greenhaven Farm.

In this workshop we have an introduction to building with earthen material, intro to clay plasters from scratch. Sourcing and using raw materials. Practice application and techniques.
